Homenaje a G. Richard Dimler S.J.

 Acaba de salir el segundo título de una magnífica colección que se augura larga y de brillante contenido. John W. O'Malley S.J. coordina el Consejo Editorial encargado de ir publicando en la Saint Joseph's University Press de Filadelfia (Pennsylvania) —que también tiene otras obras dedicadas a la emblemática— la serie «Early Modern Catholicism and the Visual Arts». En 2009, Walter S. Melion publicó The Meditative Art. Studies in the Northern Devotional Print. 1550-1625, y ahora aparece este tomo dedicado a uno de los más incansables y fecundos investigadores de la emblemática jesuítica, el padre G. Richard Dimler. No repetiremos aquí la lista de sus publicaciones, basta ir a nuestra bibliografía y escribir "Dimler" en la caja de búsquedas.

Desde luego, un homenaje coordinado por Pedro Campa y Peter Daly solo podía salir así de bien: el libro es de una calidad editorial extraordinaria.

El volumen se cierra con una lista de ilustraciones (y muchas de ellas se han reproducido a color), a la que sigue otra lista con las publicaciones del padre Richard Dimler y finalmente, de manera muy destacada, un índice alfabético exhaustivo, cuya longitud da idea de la riqueza de los contenidos del libro.

Desde aquí felicitamos al homenajeado permitiéndonos asegurarle que nunca olvidaremos la tarde que pasamos juntos, con John T. Cull, en Pittsburgh, durante la «Conference of the Society for Emblem Studies» de 1993, viendo un partido de baseball entre los Pirates y los Red Sox de Boston. Fue la primera vez —y hasta el momento la última— que he asistido a este juego, así que la memoria de algo que no entendía en absoluto se limita a los tremendos hot-dogs que nos zampamos en aquel Three Rivers Stadium y, sobre todo, a la conversación inteligente y el buen humor del padre Dimler, con quien luego hemos coincidido tantas veces —hasta tuvo la deferencia de venir a Palma en 2001 cuando organizamos aquí el «IV Congreso de la Sociedad Española de Emblemática».
